A Line of Palm Trees in a VillageIntroduction For centuries the area which is now Bangladesh was known throughout the civilized world for its fabled wealth, of which the exquisite muslin was an apt symbol. A Country of Six Seasons Bangladesh reveals its beauty in different ways through six seasons, namely summer (Grishma), the rainy season (Borsha), autumn (Shorot), deep autumn (Hemontoa), winter (Shit) and spring (Boshonta). According to the Bangla calendar, summer prevails in Baishakh-Jaistha (mid-April to mid-June), the rainy season in Ashar-Sraban (mid-June to mid-August), autumn in Vadra-Ashwin (mid-August to mid-October), late autumn in Kartik-Agrahayan (mid-October to mid-December), winter in Poush-Magh (mid-December to mid-February) and spring in Falgun-Chaitra (mid-February to mid-April). Different flowers and fruits are available in different seasons, bringing diverse flavours and fragrances to please our senses.
